What We Do

Ordinary Angels actively seek to improve the lives of women and children in our community. Below is a list of our current projects. Meanwhile we're always scouting out new opportunities where we can make a positive impact.

Canoas Elementary Schoola Title 1 school in San Jose, CA.  We are committed to supporting their mission to eliminate the opportunity gap and deliver the finest education. Our current programs include:

  • Literacy Program – Volunteers provide after school group or one-on-one reading assistance and interaction for children who can use the extra help. Participants receive books as a reward for their efforts and to start building their very own library.

  • Activities –  Host the "Drawing on Earth" program for a day of art, creativity and fun. Provide Legos to every classroom to encourage and improve problem solving skills, collaboration and communication.

  • Home needs – We periodically provide personal items such as blankets, warm coats and rain gear for children and families who need them

  • Snack Packs – 80% of the children are on the free/reduced price breakfast & lunch program. We provide each child with a healthy take-home snack pack at the end of the month when family resources can run short

  • New Shoes for You – Each 5th grader receives a new pair of athletic shoes at  graduation to recognize their accomplishments and help them feel more confident and ready to start middle school

Family Supportive Housing, in San Jose, CA which provides emergency shelter and supportive services for homeless families. Our support includes:

  • Dinners - We shop for, cook and serve monthly dinners on-site for the families residing at the shelter. To date, we have served over 3500 dinners

  • Birthday Celebrations - We provide cupcakes and individual recognition for each child in residence who is celebrating a birthday

  • Arts and Crafts - We host themed craft nights to provide a fun activity and give the kids an opportunity to create a gift for a family member. Children decorate a photo frame and each child receives a printed photo to display in the frame

Women's Gathering Place in San Jose, a safe place where homeless women can go to rest, eat and take a break from the challenges of living on the streets

  • Support - Ordinary Angels supplies new underclothes, socks and hygiene products as well as snacks and other essential items for distribution to local homeless women

Silicon Valley Children's Fund, an organization committed to improving the educational and life outcomes for foster youth.

  • Care Packages - We provide bimonthly care packages to foster youth that are pregnant or have young children and could use some additional support. "The average 24-year old foster youth earns 57% less than their peers and 25% of foster youth become homeless before age 20.” Ordinary Angels is looking to help change that by providing basic necessities to foster youth and their young children.
